What we look at in a casino review

Most casino reviews online are a bonus figure and a list of software providers. That tells you almost nothing about what playing at a site is actually like, and nothing at all about what happens when you try to take money out. Our casino reviews are built around the parts that decide whether an account is worth opening: how quickly withdrawals clear, what the offer really requires of you, whether the games library has depth beyond the front page, and how easy it is to impose limits on yourself.

Every review follows the same structure so you can compare like with like. A quick facts table sets out the welcome offer, minimum deposit, wagering requirement and fastest observed withdrawal, with the conditions attached to each figure printed underneath it rather than buried in a terms page. Then the things we like, the things worth knowing before you sign up, and a verdict that says who the site suits and who it does not.

How we rate online casinos

Each casino is scored out of five against five weighted criteria, and the published figure is the weighted average. The full method is set out on our how we rate page; in summary:

Payouts and banking carry the most weight, at 30%. This is the thing players complain about most and the thing operators most often overstate. We look at which methods are supported, whether stated processing times match observed ones, and whether verification is handled at signup or sprung on you at the moment of your first withdrawal.

Offer quality is 25%, and it is not the headline number. A £500 match at 50x wagering is worth considerably less than £50 in wager-free spins, and we score it accordingly. We read the wagering requirement, the maximum conversion, the expiry window, the maximum stake permitted while a bonus is active, and the game weighting that decides how quickly play counts towards clearing it.

Games and platform is 20%. Library size matters less than range and stability. A site with two thousand slots from four studios is narrower than one with eight hundred from twenty. We also check how the site behaves on a phone, because that is where most play now happens.

Licensing and conduct is 15%. A licence in good standing is a floor rather than a score. We look at complaint handling and any enforcement history.

Support and safer gambling tools is 10%, including how many clicks it takes to find deposit limits and self-exclusion.

Bonuses: read the terms, not the number

The welcome offer is the most heavily marketed and least well understood part of any casino. A few things are worth knowing before you claim one.

Wagering requirements multiply either the bonus or the bonus plus your deposit, and the difference is substantial. A 30x requirement on a £50 bonus is £1,500 of play; the same requirement on deposit-plus-bonus is £3,000. Wager-free offers, where winnings are paid as withdrawable cash, are rarer and worth more than a larger figure with strings attached.

Game weighting decides how fast you clear it. Slots typically count fully; table games often count at ten to twenty per cent, and some games are excluded outright. If you prefer blackjack or roulette, a slots-weighted bonus is not really an offer aimed at you.

Maximum conversion caps what you can withdraw from bonus play regardless of what you win. Maximum bet while a bonus is active is commonly a few pounds per spin, and breaching it can void the balance. Expiry is usually between seven and thirty days.

Since 2021, licensed operators have also had to remove features that speed up play: autoplay is banned on slots, spin speeds have a minimum duration, and features that celebrate returns below the amount staked are not permitted. Statutory stake limits on online slots now apply as well — £5 per spin for players aged 25 and over, and £2 for those aged 18 to 24.

Payments and withdrawals

Deposits are near-instant almost everywhere, so the differences that matter are on the way out. We record which methods are supported for withdrawal, whether the operator returns funds to the method used to deposit, what the minimum withdrawal is, and whether there is a pending or reversal period during which a request can be cancelled — a feature that exists mostly to tempt you into playing the money back.

Credit cards cannot be used to gamble in Great Britain. Identity verification is required before withdrawal, and licensed operators must complete essential checks at registration rather than delaying them until a payout is requested. Where a site is slow at this in practice, we say so in the review.

Games, providers and live casino

A good library has depth in the categories you actually play. We look at the spread of slot studios, whether jackpot games are present and how they are pooled, the range of table limits, and the state of the live casino: how many tables, whether any are localised for the UK, and what the minimum and maximum stakes are at peak times.

Return to player percentages are published by game rather than by site, and they vary between versions of the same title depending on the configuration an operator has chosen. Where an operator publishes RTP clearly, that is a point in its favour.

Only licensed operators
